Trail Riding at Good Luck Stable

At Good Luck Stable, the safety of our riders and horses is our highest priority. We’ve established clear guidelines to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable and secure experience during their visit. By adhering to these safety protocols, we create a positive environment where both beginners and experienced riders can connect with our horses and the beautiful Berkeley Springs landscape.

Prior riding experience is not required to join our trail rides. However, we do ask that all visitors have a love for animals and the ability to follow instructions from our experienced guides.

Planning a group outing? We can accommodate larger groups for a fun, relaxing trail ride. It’s a great way to bond with friends, family, or coworkers — all while enjoying the great outdoors. We are happy to host birthday parties as well! Contact us for details.

Our rides are open to everyone 6 and up. Our experienced guides ensure everyone feels safe and confident, whether it’s your first ride or your fiftieth.

Trail rides start at $65/hour. Call ahead to book your ride — we can’t wait to show you around!

Prepare for Your Ride

Basic Requirements for All Riders

– **Age restriction:** Riders must be at least 6 years old for trail rides

– **Weight limit:** Maximum rider weight is 275 pounds

– **Helmet use:** ASTM/SEI approved riding helmets are required for all riders (provided at no additional cost)

– **Proper footwear:** Closed-toe shoes are mandatory for all riders

– **Appropriate clothing:** No shorts, flip-flops, or Crocs are permitted while riding

– **Young riders:** Children under 10 must be accompanied by a paying adult on trail rides

– **Single riders only:** No double saddle riding is allowed

Before You Ride

– Arrive 15-20 minutes prior to your scheduled ride time

– Complete and sign all required liability release forms

– Listen carefully to our pre-ride safety briefing

– Ask questions if you’re unsure about any instructions

– Allow our staff to assist you with mounting and dismounting

During Your Ride

– Always follow the instructions of your guide

– Maintain the designated distance between horses

– Hold the reins properly as demonstrated

– Stay on marked trails at all times

– Keep both feet in the stirrups while riding

– No trotting, cantering, or separating from the group

What to Bring

– Long pants (jeans are ideal)

– Boots or closed-toe shoes with a small heel if possible

– Weather-appropriate clothing (layers recommended)

– Sunscreen and insect repellent (seasonal)

– Water bottle (hydration is important)

– Small camera if desired (secure attachment required)

What Not to Bring

– Loose or dangling jewelry

– Umbrellas or items that could startle horses

– Pets (they must stay at home)

– Loose bags or backpacks

– Selfie sticks or other extendable devices

Special Note for First-Time Riders

If this is your first time on horseback, please let our staff know when you make your reservation. We’ll take extra care to match you with an appropriate horse and provide additional guidance throughout your experience. While no prior experience is necessary, we do require all riders to have the ability to follow instructions and a basic love for animals.

Wonderful trail ride service with Matthew, whose eye on the weather helped us sneak in a late fall sunset ride and miss the next day's snow/rain. Diesel took great care of a first timer and Hank 1 kept it fun for an experienced rider! We enjoyed exploring the property and beyond with some creek crossing and wildlife sighting. Loved the petting zoo tour too!

I bought the 10 lesson package. I have been having a great time and have learned so much. I would recommend Good Luck Stable to any beginner. They also have a lot of animals that you can meet and pet.

I texted the number on Google maps and Matthew called me back right away. He was so nice over the phone, explained what we needed to know about the horse back trail ride and got us scheduled for that day. We went on a 1 hour trail ride with Anne and had such a lovely time. She was warm, attentive and fun to talk to. She also gave us a trotting experience after the trail ride as well as a quick tour of the farm, which were both really fun. Really appreciate how warm and welcoming Good Luck Stables was!

My husband and I scheduled a one hour trail ride 10/30/2023. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we called and were delighted when we were able to schedule a second ride 11/01/2023 for two hours. We saw does bedded down for the day and several bucks; leaping and running while on our second ride. Matthew was our guide for both rides and he was fantastic! I can't say enough positive things about our entire experience. We enjoyed the rides, the farm tour, as well as feeding and petting the various animals. Our horses Showdown and Diesel were perfect for us. These were the best guided trail rides I have been on. Thank you so much! We plan to visit again!
